Our health is directly dependent on the water we drink, wash and perform every vital function.
But we take turns… what are the risks we face, the consequences and the solutions for each situation?
Chlorine is one of the elements that is massively used in Albania for water disinfection.
But first, on a more macro level, do you know what happens when we bathe in chlorine water?!
Are our intimate spaces safe and properly clean?
Many families around the world bathe in untreated water, drink unfiltered water full of chemicals.
They are unaware that numerous studies have found that disinfectant chemicals – such as chlorine – can be absorbed into the skin and lungs if not filtered first.
In 2010, a panel of scientists united in the fight against Cancer prepared a report entitled ‘Reducing the Risk of Cancer in the Environment – What We Can Do Now!’.
Inside, many disturbing findings are noted about the effects of bathing and showering in untreated or unfiltered water. The report notes that while disinfecting public water supplies with chlorine has reduced the incidence of waterborne diseases, chemical byproducts are created when chlorine and other disinfectants react with organic materials. “Long-term exposure to these chemicals may increase the risk of cancer,” the report said.
The document adds that hundreds of disinfection byproducts have been detected. The most common are trihalomethanes (THMs), such as chloroform and bromoform, and also haloacetic acid. All these chemical products have side effects on our health, despite having a disinfecting role.
The report states that people who are exposed to higher levels of these substances while bathing, showering and swimming in chlorinated pools may have a higher risk of some forms of cancer. Some possible links may exist between THM exposure and the following cancers:
– Colon cancer
– Renal cell carcinoma
– Glioma
– Bladder cancer
Did you know that:
People absorb 100 times more chlorine in a 10 minute unfiltered shower than drinking 4 liters?
What is the solution?
Minimizing exposure to harmful chemicals in tap water is easier than ever.
By installing an Ecosoft water system in your home, it is easy to have clean, healthy, mineral water to wash clothes but also to maintain the entire hydrosanitary system of your home. By adding a filter system to your faucet, which is placed under the dishwasher, you ensure that this water is not only treated but also drinkable. These filtration and treatment systems are the optimal solution for removing chlorine and other contaminants from tap water.
These whole-house water systems feature a 5-micron pre-filter system that filters debris down to 5 microns in size, which is 20 times smaller than a human hair. Then I use Granular Activated Carbon Media (GAC), a mixture of coconut shell-based activated carbons.
This 6-stage, 2-level filtration system filters a wider range of contaminants from tap water. This filtration is recognized by the Water Quality Association as an acceptable method of keeping many drinking water contaminants within EPA’s National Drinking Water Standards.
With a water system from Ecosoft, there are no more worries about drinking, washing food, cooking or showering in unfiltered or untreated water.
But what are the benefits of a water treatment and filtration system from Ecosoft:
– Softens skin and hair
– Reduces skin dryness
– Reduces color fading in treated hair
– Protects the body inside and out in every aspect
Don’t forget: Take a shower in unfiltered water means absorbing chlorine into your skin, and breathing in vaporized chemicals as well. Change that today with Ecosoft, benefiting from healthy, filtered, treated water… at home, where there is peace and harmony.
But what do the studies say about the hardness of the water in the most intimate environment of our home, the shower?
We all agree that there is nothing like a hot steamy shower to wake you up in the morning or for the feeling of freshness and relaxation it can give us. But if you thought your shower was a clean and safe haven, think again.
Chances are, that shower is a breeding ground for deadly bacteria and you don’t even think about it or realize it.
Is hard water damaging your skin?
It is estimated that nearly 85% of all homes have tap water that is considered to be “hard water”. This is water that has an extremely high mineral content, usually calcium or magnesium carbonates. Mineral accumulation occurs naturally as water seeps through porous layers of limestone rock and chalk soil to later settle in underground aquifers.
Hard water can lead to consequences such as stains on bathtubs and faucets and even higher water bills (since appliances require more energy to function properly). Constant washing with hard water can also affect the health and appearance of the skin.
But how does untreated water damage our skin?
The most common effect of hard water on the skin is unnecessary dryness and irritation. This is due to the inability of water to penetrate soaps or washing lotions properly. Here we mean soaps and lotions that are used directly on the skin, but also detergents used in laundry. This unusable soap from the hardness of the water strips the skin of its natural oils, leading to dry, damaged follicles and itchy skin.
Excess minerals within hard water can dry directly on the skin, which clogs pores and leads to acne breakouts. In drier climates, hard water is often cited as a cause of dermatitis. And finally, hard water can worsen the symptoms of chronic skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
