Managing an international brand in a specific market like Albania is not an easy task. The difficulty starts with brand management, which plays a large role in the perception consumers have of companies. Done right, it can increase your brand recognition and reputation, essential when it comes to having a competitive edge in the marketplace.
Our Eglo brand manager (General Eglo Manager), who has contributed for more than 7 years in the Teoren company, Megi Dajko, kindly shared with us her experience and knowledge of what it means to be a brand manager and what are the secrets of success in this position.
For her, the decision to join Eglo was easy…
– ” The main reason for deciding to work at Teoren, was the knowledge I had about the company and the Eglo brand. I appreciated and continue to appreciate the good reputation that this company had in terms of the seriousness, ideals and values that it operated on and displayed 360 degrees.
I also wanted my work experience to have its beginnings in a large company, as you have the opportunity to benefit from everything you need to have a successful career, starting from the work culture, technical knowledge, managerial knowledge and leadership, all within the same company.
Making the right choice of job is often a 50/50 chance and I can say with confidence that I got the better side of the coin, so I’m happy with the choice I made.”
What do you like the most about the job you do at Eglo?
– “ Lighting is a field where customers usually don’t have detailed information, thus expect advice and suggestions from my side, which puts me in a “problem-solver” position that I adore.
Experiencing their satisfaction and gratitude when their project and investment turn out as beautiful and as functional as they had predicted, gives me fulfillment and a sense of confirmation that what I am doing has pozitive effects in people’s life.”
What have you learned from the most difficult moments you have encountered in your career at Eglo?
– “ There have been many cases when things didn’t go as we predicted and this caused boredom, stress, irritation and dissatisfaction among our clients, partners and coworkers.
What I have learned from them is to lead with calmness in every situation, listen to everyone’s point of view and have a positive energy when giving explanations and solutions.
Such situations have ended up making customers even more loyal than usual, because they appreciate your behavior & readiness during the whole process.”
What about the most unique part of working in the industry (experience/ information or skill development you have gained)?
– ” The most unique part of working in this industry is the innovation it entails. Each working day holds new projects, unprecedented challenges, new collaborators and the improvement of my management skills.
These projects bring new challenges to improve Eglo as a brand in all dimensions such as: service, product, image and quality.
This has allowed me to develop my collaborative skills and kept me up to date on the innovative ideas being developed in our sector.”
From your experience at Eglo, where do you think lays the biggest importance and difficulty of the “brand manager” position?
– “The greatest importance of the position of Brand Manager (General Manager) is the nature of the work process, which focuses on solving problems. You should always be ready to serve anyone who needs your experience, solutions or ideas. My motto is: ‘Listen and offer to provide a solution.’
The biggest difficulty lies in the fact that you always have to be active because of the dynamic nature of the market. Situations change so quickly that you don’t have time to enjoy past achievements, but you have to plan for the next achievement and always be one step ahead when thinking about the next challenges and successes, because otherwise we can never achieve the development and consistency we desire.”
Your strongest point as a professional is…?
– “I would say that my strongest point as a professional is my sense of responsibility.
The success of a brand begins with the responsibility, organization and constant discipline of management, since management has a direct impact on all aspects of the process, which affect the perception and reputation of the brand.
Also, emotional management is one of the key points, which, alongside the desire for development and the love for the work I do, helps me cover my position as the General Manager of Eglo effortlessly.”
What would be your advice for a student or young adult, joining the work force for the first time?
– ” In life, we will have different work experiences and work in different positions until we find the ‘dream job’ that fulfills us.
However, this is a process and my advice is: ‘Don’t miss a single step of the process!’
You must be willing to give and receive your best in every job you undertake. At the end of the day, you’re going to put time into that job, and time is the only thing you can’t get back, so make it count and find yourself in every step of it.”
Is there something you appreciate above all else in the company, and why?
– ” It is not just one, there are many. However, the ones that stand out even more in Teoren are:
The positive approach that all employees of different departments have towards
each other. This creates a positive and stress-free environment, which has an extremely positive effect on both the work and the general emotional state of each employee.
Clear management and direction, investments in the professional growth of human resources, justice and transparency in the work we do and the products we sell, as well as the gratitude we receive and give to each other are not just words, but the values that Teoren has and transmits to all its employees.”
If you could put a title on your work/ experience at Eglo, what would it be?
– “I believe that the phrase ‘Enlightening, like Eglo itself ‘ really conveys what Teoren represents.
I say this because Eglo, as a manufacturer of lighting products, symbolizes the concept of ‘enlightenment’ not only in the physical, but also in the professional and personal aspect. This is exactly the mantra with which the history of Teoren was and will continue to be written.
My experience here has been filled with opportunities to learn, change and grow, all of which have ‘illuminated’ my path to success in every aspect.”
